The main finding of this article is related to the usage patterns and patron proficiency with the technology equipment loan program at Clemson Libraries. Some of the key findings include the high circulation rates of technology equipment items, with 2021 accounting for 21% of all library loans. It was also found that 60% of the users were undergraduate students, and usage patterns varied by department, with certain departments more likely to use the equipment for personal projects, while others used it for academic projects. Patron proficiency with the equipment generally improved after usage, and most patrons were open to additional assistance, particularly through online tutorials.

 

Beyond qualitative or quantitative methods, the primary method used to answer the research question was a survey. The authors conducted a user survey using the Qualtrics survey platform to gather data on patron behavior and proficiency with the technology equipment. The survey included multiple-choice questions and Likert scale questions to collect quantitative data, as well as a qualitative short answer question to gather additional insights.

 

The data presented in the article provides insights into patron behavior regarding their use of technology equipment from the library. It revealed that a significant portion of patrons borrowed equipment for personal projects, while others used it for academic assignments and research. The data also showed differences in patron behavior based on the type of equipment borrowed and the departments they were associated with. It indicated that patrons generally became more comfortable with the equipment after borrowing it, suggesting that hands-on experience was valuable in improving proficiency. Additionally, the data revealed that most patrons were open to utilizing additional assistance in learning how to operate the equipment, particularly through online tutorials.
